How Rafting actually runs

Rafting is the most weather-bound trade on this list: the river decides the season, and within it the water level decides which sections run on any given morning. That makes rescheduling a normal operating event rather than an exception — a group booked for Saturday may be running a different grade, or a different day, by Friday night. What you need is every booking reachable in one place when the level changes, not spread across forty chat threads.

Most rafting outfits also run river tubing on the calmer sections, and the two are one business with one shift of guides, one shuttle and one set of water levels — but they sell to different people. Tubing is a hot-afternoon, walk-up, family purchase; the grade III run is booked weeks out by a group that came for it. Set them up as separate tours with their own capacity and price and the same day can hold both, without a tubing party quietly filling seats on a raft they are not equipped for.

What a half-filled booking costs you

Rafting sells to groups, so a booking that arrives without a headcount is not one unknown but eight. Getting swimming ability and the group's real size at the point of booking is what decides how many guides and which section, and finding out on the riverbank is how a trip gets downgraded in front of the customers who paid for it.
